Martha Haberstumpf

Martha Haddock Haberstumpf, 81, peacefully journeyed to heaven on June 9, 2025 from her assisted living home in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Martha was born December 29, 1943 in Nassawadox, Virginia, the daughter of Rev. W. Kenneth and Mary Frances (Williams) Haddock. Being a "preacher's kid", Martha grew up moving between many Methodist church communities in central and eastern Virginia and graduated from Churchland High School in 1961. In 1973, she and her young family moved to Manteo, NC where she spent the next 43 years. She was a long-time member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church and, more recently, Liberty Christian Fellowship.

Living in downtown Manteo, Martha enjoyed walking and biking along the docks and working in her stunning yard and garden. However, the garden never eclipsed the open view to the kitchen where everyone was welcome to stop in. There were never so many friends and family around the table that one more couldn't fit.

During her time in Manteo, Martha had many careers - while doing administrative work in a doctor's office, she developed an interest in medicine and became an EMT-I, driving an ambulance and doing medical helicopter transports. She later worked as a bookkeeper, professional seamstress, detention officer, and tax assessor. Her social and volunteer roles were equally important: Girl Scout leader, member of NC Emmaus, bible studies, Kairos Prison Ministries, and others.

As her daughters grew up and started their own lives' adventures, Martha was not to be left behind. She enjoyed traveling and sharing in their adventures and families - and loved being a grandmother. She enjoyed visiting with friends, beach days of all sorts, hiking in the mountains, and making new friends - both people and dog. Everyone who knew her will remember her beautiful smile and joyful laugh.

Preceding Martha in death were her parents, stepmother Frances B. Haddock, and brother W. Kenneth (Kenney) Haddock, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Becky Boush of St. Matthews, SC, Anne Million (James) of Fort Collins, CO, and Kathryn Westcott (Michael) of Snow Camp, NC; her sister Carolyn Sue Monfalcone of Glen Allen,VA; and former husband, Randall Haberstumpf. She has 3 grandchildren: Jenny Jones (Chandler), Tori Robinson (Andrew), and Cooper Westcott; 2 great grands; and many cherished cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Liberty Christian Fellowship in Kill Devil Hills, NC on August 16, 2025 at 2:00pm
