Mary Hanks Koury Powers, age 97, of Fort Collins, Colorado, formerly of Tyler, Texas, died October 20, 2008. No local services are planned. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Tyler, Texas. Mary Hanks was born July 31, 1911 in Vincennes, Indiana. She met and married her husband, Michel Koury in Indianapolis. They moved to Texas in 1943. After Michel's death in 1961, she became a secretary to the Episcopal Bishop for the diocese of Texas. In 1973, she married her long-time friend, J.G. (Doc) Powers and together they enjoyed traveling. After Doc's death, she moved to Ft. Collins to be near her son, Mike Koury, his wife, Dee and their children, Gordon and Krista. She was always active in her church and enjoyed embroidering, needlepoint and knitting. Mary was preceded in death by her twin sister, Martha (Marty), her older sister, Bessie, and her brother Pete. She is survived by her son and his wife, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
