Mary Louise Schmirler

Oct 17, 1943 — Jul 14, 2026

Windsor

Mary Schmirler passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026. She was born Mary Louise Campbell on October 17, 1943 to Fern (Perkins) and Charles Campbell in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from Laramie High School in Wyoming. She enjoyed summers playing with her aunts and uncles and the animals at the family farm in Bennett, Colorado.

Upon graduation, she moved to Denver, living on her own in the big city. She loved the challenge and her independence, and always looked back fondly on the experience.

Married life (first to Joe Wally and then to Wayne Schmirler) took her away from the mountains, living shortly in Mexico and then for 30 years in Wisconsin balancing work and family life. She was a fantastic mother to her children, Linda (Wally) Rosens and Jon Schmirler, always putting them first.

In 1995 she took advantage of her new independence by moving back near the mountains, buying a home in Windsor, Colorado. She loved her house, neighbors and her new career with the Fort Collins, Colorado branch of Hewlett-Packard and its spinoff companies, working well into retirement. She was so happy to call the west her home again and enjoyed every minute.

She had a love of animals and the outdoors throughout her life. Mary enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, reading, movies and spending time with friends, family [including Daisy (Finn) Kelly, Jackson Solter, Vincent Schmirler, Randy Rosens and Theresa (Solter) Schmirler], her pets, and time spent on her front porch.

We would like to thank her care teams Bloom Hospice, Brookdale of Fort Collins, Colorado and Lora Stange. They shared their compassion and expertise with Mary, her family, and friends in a caring and professional manner.

Donations can be made in her name to The Wild Animal Sanctuary at WildAnimalSanctuary.org.

Happy trails, Mom!
