Mary P. Yocum

Mary P. Yocum, 82, died surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, following a long illness. Mary was born on May 14, 1939, to Jean and Dr. Robert J. Porter of Des Moines, IA. She graduated from the University of Iowa, where she met her husband of 58 years, Robert (Bob) Yocum. Mary taught grade school and raised her family in Bloomingdale, NJ. She volunteered in many organizations and enjoyed being a leader in the community. Following Bob's retirement from Bendix, they joined their daughters in Colorado and built their dream home overlooking the Rocky Mountains. She was a member of PEO, Newcomers, Adoption Dream Guild, "the Splashers" and other organizations. Mary and Bob loved traveling, logging many miles in their RV and venturing as far as Australia and Costa Rica. Mary's passion was her family & she especially treasured gatherings at Spirit Lake, IA at her family cottage.

Mary is survived by her daughters Sandy Scott and partner Mike Houdek, Kathleen (Kevin) Michie, and Kristin Yocum; grandchildren Zachary Scott, Taylor (Emily) Scott, and Tyler (Jane) Michie; great-grandchildren Riley and Spencer Michie, and Hazel Grace Scott; brothers Dr. Robert (Karen) Porter and Thomas (Susan) Porter; sisters Jean (Eugene) Olson and Lila (James) Stafford; in-laws Margaret Nelson and James (Barbara) Yocum; and nieces, nephews, and many friends as far away as China. She was predeceased by her parents and husband Bob.
