Michael Hamill

Mar 29, 1953 — Jul 2, 2012

Michael "Mike" Andrew Hamill, age 59, of Fort Collins, Colorado died July 2, 2012 at Hospice of Northern Colorado surrounded by people who loved him. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on August 11, 2012 at 10 am at Peace With Christ Lutheran Church, 1412 Swallow Road, Fort Collins, Colorado. Mike Hamill, the third of seven children, was born March 29, 1953 in Colby, Kansas to Virgil R. (Rusty) and Marjorie (Condon) Hamill. He graduated from Colby High School in 1971, though he spent most of his life and attended schools in Ft. Collins. He was employed for over 30 years by various road construction businesses including McMurry Brothers, Lafarge, Western Mobile and Aggregate Industries. He is survived by his son, John Wayne Hamill (Ft. Collins) and siblings: Barbara Ann Rodman of Denton, TX; Albert (and Linda) Ahuna-Hamill of Ft. Collins; Glenna (and Jay ) Beyer of Lubbock, TX; Keith "K.C." (and Mollie) Hamill of Amarillo, TX; Kevin (and Penny) Hamill of Ft. Collins; and Amy (and Brad) Hoy of Ft. Collins. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Sarah Oglesby Dunegan; Thomas and Lory Hamill and Kylia Ahuna; Audrey Walker and Jacob Beyer; Colby, Kaylee, Ryley, and Daegen Hamill; Killian and Kirby Hamill; and Claire and Libby Hoy. Those who will mourn his passing also include beloved cousins and devoted friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and by a niece, Maggie Hamill. Mike worked in highway construction on roads in rain, snow, and sunshine all over Colorado and Wyoming. Mike enjoyed being the straight man in a practical joke and had a laugh that could be mistaken for a sinister giggle at times. A lifetime fan of the Bronco's and the Rockies he enjoyed watching them with family and friends. A cowboy since he could walk, he was kind to children, courteous to women, fair to men, pulled more than his share, bore his burdens without complaint, and loved animals, especially his loyal dogs, Phred and Sandy and a high maintenance cat, Hannah. He had affection for westerns and good chili, and was known for his tasty Deviled Eggs which he always brought to family dinners. Weekends were spent on the golf course with his brothers and dad. No matter why, when or where you needed help, Mike would be the first one there to lend a hand. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his devotion to his son, parents, siblings, and his nieces and nephews. He earned his rest and will be missed greatly and fondly remembered by those whose lives he touched by the examples he set in deeds and a few well-chosen words. The family thanks Dr. Patty Mayer and the staff at Hospice of Northern Colorado for the loving and dignified care they gave Mike. Memorial contributions can be sent to Hospice at: 2726 W. 11th Street Road, Greeley, CO 80634.
