Michael Moxcey

Mike Moxcey, 65, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away September 25, 2021. Mike was born December 15, 1955, to Bob and Dot (Misenor) Moxcey in Illinois. Six days after being born, his family moved all over the U.S. due to his father's job in the military. They finally settled in Homestead, FL, where he grew up. After high school, despite a natural talent and love for math, Mike turned down a scholarship to MIT to hitchhike around the U.S. to play music and explore. While working in Denver, he met Carol Sears. They settled in Fort Collins in 1987. While Mike worked as a computer programmer, his main passion was music, primarily the banjo. He played with countless musicians over the years, mentored many, designed and performed music programs for elementary schools, and played in many bands, the most recent being the Weirdgrass Band. Any given Wednesday, over the past 20 years, friends could find Mike at Avo's bluegrass jam in Fort Collins or the Swing Station open mic in Laporte. Mike also continued his passion for math in his free time. He was currently writing a paper on how the theory of completeness explains emergent properties of the universe. Mike was a wonderful husband and father, always supportive of his kids' interests and career exploration.

Mike is survived by his mother, Dot Moxcey, of Homestead, FL, wife Carol of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Karen (Zoey) Moxcey of LaFayette, CO, son Matt (Elliott Chiu) Moxcey of Davis, CA, sister Bonny (Steve) Crews of Homestead, FL, sister-in-law Nancy Moxcey of Crestview, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Robert Moxcey, and his brother, Louis Moxcey.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
