Allard Michael Moody passed away February 2, 2026, at the age of 86 after a brief illness. He was born in Kobe, Japan, on June 2, 1939, to an English father, Eric Moody, and American mother, Virginia Moody. He was named for a distant Dutch colonial relative from New Amsterdam, but no one ever called him anything but "Mike".
His father, Eric, worked for the Nestle Company at the branch office in Japan until it became apparent that war was eminent and living there safely was no longer possible. During the war, Virginia and their four children lived in Kodaikanal, India. After the war, the family relocated to Vevey, Switzerland, near the Nestle global headquarters. Mike spent his boyhood in Switzerland before attending high school in England.
The family briefly moved to the US when Mike was 17. He opted for American citizenship and remained in the US where he enlisted into the Air Force. His last military assignment was at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, working on the Minuteman Missile System. After being honorably discharged, Mike took advantage of the peacetime GI Bill and attended college at the University of Wyoming. While obtaining his education, he worked full-time as an operator on the University's campus-wide computer, the Philco 2000. This advanced mainframe used key-punch cards and took up a large room.
During his time at the University of Wyoming, Mike met his future wife, Joyce Tominc. They were married in her hometown, Rock Springs, Wyoming, on June 19, 1971. Upon graduation, Mike worked as an insurance adjuster for Crawford and Company, first in Riverton, Wyoming, and later in Rawlins, Wyoming. They would stay in Rawlins for nine years, where Mike became an insurance agent at Allen and Cornwell, a long-time local agency. In 1986, the family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he continued his career in insurance as he and Joyce ran a small Aflac insurance agency, A.M. Insurance Services.
Mike and Joyce raised three children; Anne Elizabeth Moody, who proceeded Mike in death in 2018 at the age of 45; Neal Eric Moody, Fort Collins; and Jeanne Virginia Moody (partner, Paul Watson), San Diego, California.
Once Mike retired from Insurance, he devoted his time to being a wonderful husband. He and Joyce had recently taken up square dancing and were just getting good at it before his passing. Mike was also a faithful volunteer at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, particularly helping the Knights of Columbus with their many activities.
Because Mike had spent his formative years in many countries, he had developed a rather unique accent. People would often ask him where he had been born, and he always answered with a smile, Japan!
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
