Mildred (Millie) passed away surrounded by loved ones in Fort Collins, Colorado on February 24, 2020.

Millie was born in Larimore, ND to Joseph and Marjorie Johnson. They later moved to Grand Forks, where she graduated from Central High School. She married John (Dick) Powers of East Grand Forks. They had three children, Jolene, Richard and Julie. Dick passed away in 1963.

In 1991, Millie married John Nelson of Grand Forks. They happily lived in South Dakota for many years. In 2018, with failing health, Millie moved to Colorado to be near her daughters and grandchildren.

Millie is survived by her husband, John Nelson of Grand Forks; daughters, Jolene Kershaw and Julie Powers of Fort Collins, CO; step-daughter-in-law, Elaine Nelson of Grand Forks; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one on the way; sister Eleanor Johnson of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dick Powers; son, Rick Powers; step-son, John Nelson; son-in-law, Gary Kershaw; parents, Joe and Marjorie Johnson; sisters, Beverly Greenberg, Dureen Ewals, Caroline Johnson, Murial Farester, Elsie Nygard, Lois Johnson, and Elaine Johnson; and brothers, Calvin Johnson and Robert Johnson.

Millie was proud of her Norwegian heritage and loved helping her family make the yearly lefse and her yummy homemade donuts. John and Millie loved their road trips to visit many friends and family. She will be remembered as a fun, happy, and the gift of gab lady.

She will be laid to rest at the Memorial Park South Cemetery in Grand Forks. Per her request, there will be no service.
