Miriam Katasi Likimani was a beloved mother, sister, cousin, aunt, and grandmother, who passed away on the night of May 29, 2021 at her home in Fort Collins, Colorado. Miriam was born in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania to the late Dr. Jason Clement Likimani of Kerarapon, Kenya, and Ms. Evelyn Gweralusi Balintuma of Mengo, Uganda.
Miriam was a registered nurse and midwife who trained at Paddington General hospital, London, Guys hospital, London, and Hammersmith hospital, London. She started her career in the United Kingdom and then later returned home. She had a long illustrious career based in Uganda and Kenya, for both governments in the Ministry of Health and with Non-Government Organizations. She first worked in Uganda with the city council at Kiswa health center Nakawa, Uganda and then Marie stopes clinic Nyeri, Kenya. She then got a job at International Planned Parenthood where she spent most of her working life. The job had her travelling and working across the globe. Later she worked with Médecins Sans Frontières at the Liboi refugee camp in Kenya and later transferred to Mogadishu, Somalia.
Miriam was an avid reader and treasured her family and friends. When she was younger, she played tennis and volleyball. She was also a fantastic seamstress and had an amazing green thumb. Everywhere she lived she was surrounded by plants that she had lovingly nurtured, She is survived by her brother Dango Mwinyipembe, sisters Msindo Koff, Kelai Ayume and Sopiato Likimani, her only child a daughter Vanessa Namuyaba Temanju, her only grandson Michael Malaika Ssimbwa, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on June 12, 2021 at 2 pm
