Norma Christensen

Norma Louise Christensen, 87, passed away March 13, 2012 at Lemay Avenue Health Care in Fort Collins, CO. She was born April 2, 1924 to Leslie C. and Irene Sheppard in Cherokee, Iowa and grew up in Albert City, Iowa. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1944 with a BA Degree in English/History, she served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE in World War II. Norma married Harvey Christensen in 1946 and they resided in Worland, Wyoming, where they raised their three children, Hedy, Tom and Susan. For many years Norma taught English, journalism and humanities at Worland Senior High School. During that time she earned her MA Degree in American Studies from the University of Wyoming. She was heavily involved in various teachers' organizations locally and nationally, and was President of the Wyoming Education Association for two years. Norma served on the State of Wyoming Commission for Women and the Council for the Humanities and was active in St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Worland, serving as organist and lay-reader, and she also served on the Worland City Council. Norma was the Registrar for the Summer School at Oxford School of Religious Studies and spent several summers in Oxford, England. Norma moved to Fort Collins, CO in 2001. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, reading, traveling extensively and attending symphony concerts and other cultural activities. Norma was preceded in death by her parents L.C. and Irene Sheppard, her sister Gladys Robinson, and her husband Harvey Christensen. She is survived by her daughter Hedy Reynolds-Shipman (Rich) of Fort Collins, CO, her son Tom Christensen and his daughter Sondra of Clearfield, UT, and her daughter Susan Christensen and her son Michael of Roswell, GA. She will be missed by them and her numerous friends across the country. At her request, no service will be held. Goes Funeral Care in Fort Collins, CO is in charge of final arrangements.
