On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, Otis Beach, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 80.
Otis was born on November 12, 1942, in Wichita, KS to Otis and Celia (Just) Beach. He received his undergraduate degree at Idaho State University in 1964 and received his law degree from the University of Wyoming in 1967. He practiced law in Greybull, WY, before moving to Fort Collins in 1977, where he would practice criminal defense law until his retirement in 2010.
Otis married Jeanie Medrud on February 20, 1965, and had a son, Eric, and a daughter, Heather. Though the relationship between Otis and Jeanie did not last as they divorced in 1981, Otis would find the love of his life, Joyce Hubbell, whom he married in 1982.
Otis had a number of passions in his life, none more so than fishing. He would often visit Red Feather Lakes and the Poudre River locally, and regularly took trips to Montana for fly fishing excursions. He also loved baseball and the Colorado Rockies in particular. He enjoyed going to games at Coors Field and had the chance to see a game at Wrigley Field in Chicago. He had an analytical mind and would exercise his intellect on crossword, logic, or any other type of puzzle or game that would pose a challenge for him to solve. He was known for his sense of humor, his honesty, his love for his family, and his kindness toward those he cared about.
Otis was preceded in death by his father, Otis, and his mother, Celia. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his two children, Eric (Andrea Beach) and Heather (Mike Ossian), and his grandchildren, Soren and Jake.
A memorial service will be held on February 18, 2023 at Harmony Presbyterian Church at 400 Boardwalk Drive in Fort Collins at 2:00 MST. The service will also be live streamed on YouTube @harmony presbyterian church 4136. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for a donation to the Family Housing Network of Fort Collins (familyhousingnetwork.org/how-to-help/donate-today) or the University of Wyoming Law School (uwo.edu/law) in Otis's name.
