Owen Everette Thomas

d. Feb 25, 2018

Owen Everette Thomas passed away on February 25, 2018 at MacKenzie Place in Fort Collins, after a decade-long struggle with progressive dementia.
Owen was born on October 29, 1930 in Denver, Colo. to Orrin H. and Hazel B. (Bell) Thomas. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1948 and attended Oregon State University and the University of Colorado. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Owen married Clara M. Keirns on June 8, 1957 in Englewood, Colo. They started their family in Westminster, Colo. and then moved to Fort Collins in 1970. Clara preceded Owen in death, having passed away in 2010.

Owen worked in computer data processing for Ideal Cement Company, Jefferson County Bank, and from 1970 to 1995 for First National Bank of Fort Collins, where he worked his way up to vice president of electronic banking. During his tenure at First National, Owen also volunteered countless hours to civic groups and charitable organizations in Fort Collins.

Owen and Clara traveled regularly, including trips to Alaska, Canada, and numerous visits to Europe. Owen also enjoyed golf, reading, auto mechanics, and classic cars.

Owen is survived by his brother Charles (Betty) Thomas of Tampa, Fla.; his four children: Patrick (Heather) Thomas of Salt Lake City, Utah, Michael (Diane) Thomas of Englewood, Colo., Bryan (Claudia) Thomas of Blackstone, Va., and Sandra (Kyle) Villers of Fort Collins; and his grandsons Andrew Thomas of Lakewood, Colo., and David Thomas of Boulder, Colo.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at MacKenzie Place and Halcyon Hospice for their support. An interment at Grandview Cemetery is tentatively planned for June. Memorial contributions may be made to CU's Rocky Mountain Alzheimer's Disease Center at giving.cu.edu/alzheimers.
