Respected Colorado State University Professor Emeritus Parviz "Paul" Azari died Dec. 15, 2017. He was 86.
Dr. Azari moved to Fort Collins in 1963 with his wife and young family to help build and serve as a professor in the newly created biochemistry department at Colorado State University. He retired after nearly 40 years of teaching and research at CSU. His dedicated efforts were responsible for enabling generations of students to thrive and excel in their chosen fields.
Born in 1931 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Paul grew up in Tehran, Iran. He came to the United States in 1948 to attend undergraduate school at the University of California, Berkeley. He earned his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Nebraska.
Paul married Harriet-Ann Coates in 1955. She preceded him in death in 2009.
They had five children, Aaron, (Anita), of Arvada; Doran (Kathy), of Greeley; Victoria Loran (Tom), Nina Azari and Katherine Azari (Dan MacArthur), all of Fort Collins.
Other survivors include a sister Turan Ilsen (Roland), and a brother, Eric Azari, both of California, six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Paul loved his garden, was an accomplished watercolor artist, a great cook, a loving husband and father, and a generous man. He was always curious about the world and enjoyed learning about the people he met in his life. He will be dearly missed.
In Paul's memory and in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wild Animal Sanctuary at 2999 Co Rd 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643.
