(Patricia) Rae Mullenix

d. May 10, 2026

(Patricia) Rae Mullenix, of Ft. Collins, CO, passed into eternity with her savior, Jesus, on May 10th, at the age of 84. She is survived by her sister, Alice Ann Weetman, her daughters, Melissa Krug & Tracy Horst, as well as her seven grandchildren, Salvador Muro, Timothy Horst, Andres Muro, Emma Horst, Mateo Muro, Marcos Muro, and Kate Boehner.

Rae was born in San Diego, CA, on March 10th, 1942, to Homer Mullenix & Janis (Gibbs) Mullenix. Prior to her senior year in high school, Rae moved to Hawaii with her parents due to Homer's job with the United States Air Force. Rae graduated from Kailua High School in 1960. While dreaming of becoming an American Airlines Hostess, Rae met & married Gerry Krug, who was stationed in Hawaii while serving with the United States Marine Corp. While still living in Hawaii, Rae & Gerry had their first child, Melissa. Then, after moving to California, their second child, Tracy, was born.

The family relocated to Fort Collins in 1972, where Rae met her dear friend, Sue Shade while attending Lutheran church. Rae even did a bit of modeling during this time! In 1979, Rae & Gerry were divorced. Shortly afterwards, Rae & Tracy moved to Longmont where Rae continued her house cleaning business while also working on the production line at Storage Tech. After Tracy graduated from Niwot High School and started attending Colorado State University, Rae relocated to Boulder and started working for the Colorado Secretary of State's office.

Despite facing many challenges throughout her life, Rae maintained a positive attitude and always looked for ways to bless those around her through kind words and sacrificial giving.

In 1995, Rae relocated to Fort Collins to be closer to her grandchildren and took a job in the Telecommunications department at Colorado State University. Rae even purchased a duplex with Doug & Tracy and lived next door to them and Tim & Emma for many years, as well as Kate for a few months.

Rae married Dennis Sheret in 2001. They shared many special times with all seven of their grandchildren at the duplex, including hosting many Christmas brunches highlighted by Dennis' frittatas and Rae's ebelskivers -- delicious, Danish spherical pancakes Rae learned to bake while living in California. They also enjoyed bird watching from the back patio. Dennis passed into eternity in 2017 due to complications from a massive stroke.

Rae enjoyed tole painting, and was active in Faith Evangelical Free church until her bout with Parkinson's disease prevented her from continuing. Rae also enjoyed celebrating special occasions at Dairy Queen, and even tried walking from Good Samaritan Water Valley to the Windsor DQ without any escort. When Tracy and Kate took some DQ to Rae on her birthday earlier this year, Rae was so weak she couldn't sit up in bed, but after a couple bites, said, "This is the best day ever!"

There will be a celebration of life for Rae at Mountain View Community Church (2330 E. Prospect Rd., Fort Collins, CO 80525) on Sunday, May 24th, at 2:00 p.m.
