Penny K. Reed

Penny Kathleen Reed, 81 of Fort Collins, long-time PVH Executive staff member died April 7, 2025 at Poudre Valley Hospital. Penny had a lifelong battle with Polio and lived her life to the fullest, none the less.

Penny Kathleen Bowman was born April 12, 1943 in Denver to Charles and Eva Bowman. She grew up there and contracted polio at the age of 8. She powered through all of her life by remaining active. Graduating from St. Francis High School in Denver, Penny then went to the College of St. Mary in Omaha where she got her undergraduate degree in Medical Records & Administration.

In 1966, Penny married Donald Dean Reed at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Denver and together they had three children, Michael, Tiffany and Todd. Sadly, their oldest, Michael died in 1995.

Penny received a master's degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Phoenix. She was also certified in Risk Management, an important part of her work at Poudre Valley Hospital. She worked at PVH for 47 years and is the second longest working employee at PVH.

She was active throughout her life, at work, at home, at church and in the community. A longtime member of St. Joseph Parish, she also sent her children to the school. When her kids were young, Penny volunteered in the Soroptimist Club and enjoyed ceramics; was active in the Post Polio Club; enjoyed 4X4ing, fishing, snowmobiling and boating with her mother and father, gardening with her husband in her beautiful yard in Ft Collins and spending as much time as possible at their family cabin in Grand Lake.

Penny is survived by her husband, Don; two children, Tiffany (and David) Cox of Elizabeth, CO and Todd Reed of Ft. Collins; and five grandchildren, Talon Reed, Mason Reed, Anna Hughes, Joey Hughes and Kacey Reed. She was preceded in death by her son Michael.
