Phillip J. Steyn

Phillip J. Steyn, age 96, passed away on July 17, 2026. Born in Boksburg, South Africa, on March 10, 1930, he was the last-born child of Conrad and Catharina Steyn.

Phillip devoted his life to ministry as a Church of Christ preacher. A graduate of Abilene Christian University, he traveled numerous times between South Africa and the United States, sharing the gospel and touching countless lives. His influence and teaching reached across two continents, and his legacy of faith lives on in the many congregations, students, and families he served.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Catharina Steyn; his beloved wife, Lucy Steyn; and his siblings, Peter Steyn, Conrad Steyn, and Yetta Andrews.

He is survived by his three children: Estelle Wessels and her husband, Herman; Phillip Steyn and his wife, Heather; and Douwene Buchanan and her husband, Neville.

He is also survived by eight grandsons: Jurie Wessels, Phillip Wessels, Phillip Steyn, De Villiers Steyn, Peter John Steyn, John Mark Buchanan, David Buchanan, and Benjamin Buchanan; and four great-grandchildren: Phillip Steyn, Lideweij Wessels, Theo Steyn, and Birdie Buchanan.
