Phyllis was born to Charles and Anne Meissner in Chicago, IL on December 11, 1933. She and her older brother, Chuck, were raised in the Chicago area. She graduated from high school in 1951.
She was wed to George Kennell in Harrisville, New York in 1956. They raised four children; Pam, Larry, Glenn and Kim. In 1990, Phyllis and George left New York State and moved to Fort Collins, CO, where Phyllis resided until her sudden passing.
She worked a variety of retails jobs and in the food service industry at Potsdam State University, a job she truly enjoyed because of her interaction with college students. There were also the responsibilities of raising four children and taking care of the home and beloved pets.
Phyllis loved to travel, dance, swim, walk, listen to music, be with friends and pets, and, most of all, she loved to shop! She had a flair for fashion and never passed up a good sale! She was a volunteer at PVH for 25 years, with her favorite assignment being in the hospital thrift shop. She enjoyed attending exercise classes at the senior center. She had many dear friends and enjoyed making new friends along the way.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George (1994); brother, Chuck; and son-in-law, Keith (2018). She is survived by her four children: Pam Hartig (Bob) of Hagaman, NY; Larry Kennell of Heddesheim, Germany; Glenn Kennell of Holderness, NH; and Kim Kennell Ferro of Fort Collins, CO, as well as several grandchildren, and her cat, Noah.
Phyllis was a wonderful lady, and she will be greatly missed. She lived a good life and would tell everyone to have fun and travel while you are able! She enjoyed life to its fullest until her final day.
Donations in Phyllis’s memory may be made to Animal Friends Alliance, Fort Collins, CO or The Wild Animal Sanctuary, Keenesburg, CO.
