Ransom "Randy" Whittle

Ransom A. "Randy" Whittle, 84 of Fort Collins, CO, died August 10, 2014
at his home.

Born March 4, 1930, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Harold and Doris Whittle, he
grew up in Virginia (Washington, D.C area) and later honorably served as Master Sergeant Air Force Policeman in 1951 and 1952. Afterwards, he received his Foreign Affairs BA from George Washington University in 1956. He received his Public Administration
MA from the University of Colorado in 1975. He had become an FBI clerical
employee while in college, then as an FBI Special Agent he served in Newark, N.J.
(2 yrs.), Colorado Springs (12 yrs.), and retired from Pueblo, CO (10 years) as Special Agent
in Charge of the resident agency. In 1980, he retired after a long and successful 24 year career. During the last 10 years of his FBI career, Ransom taught law enforcement officers re-training sessions in Hostage Negotiations and Sex Crimes Investigation in CO & WY. It was because of his passion and dedication to his training sessions that he decided to move to Fort Collins and pursue his graduate degree. In 1991 he earned his PhD in Sociology from Colorado State University.

Randy married Holly L. Spoor in Fort Collins in 1980, and over the years they
enjoyed annual travel to Mazatlan, Mexico, and also riverboat trips.

Randy taught criminology courses and Introduction to Sociology at the University of
Northern Colorado1992 - 1993 and Front Range Community College 1993 - 2000.

He kept up professional connections with Retired Peace Officers of Colorado;
Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI; and FBI National Academy Associates
(after having been a counselor at the Academy 100th Session in 1975).

Randy is survived by his wife Holly; his daughter Dionne Haase of Lakewood, CO;
his son Drew; and his two grandchildren: Neal Titus and Gwendolyn Titus.

Randy sang in his church choir wherever he was living and served several years
as a Stephen Minister at First Presbyterian Church, Fort Collins. In the 1990's
he played drums in the Fort Collins Pipe Band and sang barbershop with the
Valentine City Chorus, Loveland, CO.

Memorial Service on Saturday, August 23, 2:00 pm. at First Presbyterian Church,
351 S. College Ave., Fort Collins.
