Raymond Anthony King – Was born November 2, 1926 in Buffalo, New York and died peacefully on December 22, 2014 surrounded by his family. Ray, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, served in both World War II and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Medal. He was also awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service in Berlin, Germany. Ray earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Buffalo and furthered his love of learning with a Master of Arts from the University of Indiana.
After he retired from the Air Force, Ray, his wife Lorraine and their six children settled in Boulder, Colorado where he owned an insurance agency, attended the University of Colorado and became involved in the community. He was very active in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and school, serving on the financial committee and founded the Mayfair Auction to benefit the school. The Mayfair event continues today, celebrating its 37th year.
Ray was a dedicated family man, spending time skiing, camping, and fishing with his children and attending their sporting events. He was an avid golfer, who was proud of the two times he scored a Hole in One. Ray loved reading and was never without a book in his hand. His children and grandchildren always gathered around to hear one of Ray's famous stories. Ray enjoyed caring for the land around his mountain home and walking with his loyal canine pal, London.
The Abbey of St. Walburga, a small Benedictine community in Northern Colorado, held a special place in Ray's heart. He was always happy to lend a helping hand at the Abbey and never missed an opportunity to visit the Nuns. Ray and Lorraine celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary there, attended by family and friends.
Ray is survived by Lorraine, his loving wife of 65 years, his children Eric, Joe, Tom, Mary, Kathie, and Michelle, his grandchildren Jeremy, Ashley, Brittany, Jacqui, Allison, Sarah, Kevin, David, Katherine, Rachael, Rebecca, Andrew, Karen, Axel and Moxie, and his great grandchildren Sage, Hazel, Olive, Kevin and Claire. Viewing and the Rosary service will be held on Friday December 26th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loveland, CO from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
The Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday December 27 at the Abbey of St. Walburga in Virginia Dale, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Abbey of St. Walburga. Ray was loved by all and is missed already.
