Rex Eugene Kellums

Rex Eugene Kellums, a beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, and faithful Christian, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 7, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Wesley and Neva Kellums, Rex was raised in eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska. He graduated from Lyman High School in 1956 and later earned both his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Business (1970) and Master's degree in Education (1971) from Colorado State University.

While at CSU, Rex participated in Army ROTC and went on to serve as a First Lieutenant in the First Armored Division. While stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, he met his future wife, Margaret Scott, on a blind date on May 1, 1963. They were married on June 27, 1964, in Texas City, Texas, and shared 61 years of marriage.

Rex began his 30-year career at Colorado State University in 1965, serving in multiple leadership roles including Assistant Director of Housing, Director of Student Orientation, Assistant Dean, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs, and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. He retired in 1995.

Rex and Margaret were deeply involved in their church communities, including St. Luke's, St. Andrew's, and as charter members of St. Peter's Anglican Church. Rex served in numerous roles and was active in Bible studies and ministry work. Together, they also served with Gideons International beginning in 1999.

Rex was active in the community through organizations such as the Elks, Optimists, United Way, Boy Scouts, and the CSU Alumni Board. He was honored to receive the CSU Pennock Award.

He enjoyed an active life including racquet sports, fly fishing, cross-country skiing, and time in the Colorado mountains. In later years, he found joy in golf, cribbage, weekly gatherings, and especially time spent with his family and granddaughters.

Rex was known for his deep faith, generosity, humility, and sense of humor. His positive spirit and dedication to serving others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his children, Steve Kellums (Cindy), Laura Kellums Walker (Nelson), and Joel Kellums (Elizabeth); former daughter-in-law Kris; his granddaughters, Megan Kellums (Steven Rouk), Ashley Kellums, and Rebekah Kellums; his sister, Neva Ann Schmechel (John); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Fay Kellums Kautz.

A memorial service will be held on May 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Loveland, Colorado, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church Building Fund or Gideons International.
