Rex Gene Mitchell, born September 16,1948 in Springfield Missouri to William and Georgia Ruth Mitchell was the youngest of four children in a close-knit family. He married Gladys Binstock in September 1971 and together they raised two loving sons, Justin and Kyle. Rex was a devoted husband and father, cherishing time spent with his family above all.

Rex enlisted in the United States Air Force serving honorably for 24 years. He was stationed at diverse locations including Goose Bay, Labrador; Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD; Grand Forks Air Force Bae, ND; Athens, Greece, Whiteman Air Force Base, MO; Soesterberg Air Base, the Netherlands, Royal Air Force Bentwaters, England; and lastly FE Warren Air Force Base, WY. These assignments resulted in many cherished ventures of travel around the world for the entire family and making long lasting friendships with military families.

Following his military service, Rex built a respectable career in security for the US Department of Agriculture and Center of Disease Control (CDC) in the Fort Collins community. He was known for his hard work and integrity with fellow government workers.

Above all, Rex loved life to its fullest with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, golf, listening to music, playing cards, reading and walking his dogs. Family and friends will remember him for his sense of humor and easy-going nature.

Rex is survived by Gladys his bride of 54 years (as he called her); two sons Justin Mitchell and Kyle Mitchell; two sisters Vicki Stoker (Danny) and Diana Shanks (Mike), and brothers-in law and sisters-in law David Binstock (Joyce), Marcy Schmidt, Judy Tuhy (Jerry), Dale Binstock (Jane), Jeff Binstock (Lori), Mike Binstock (Sara), Paula Lengowski (Fred) and a large community of nieces and nephews who loved him for his fun-loving, outgoing and sometimes silly personality. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Georgia Ruth Mitchell; and brother Larry Mitchell (wife Janice surviving).

Rex Gene Mitchell left behind a legacy to live life to its fullest and will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, and the warmth, kindness, and the humor he shared with all who knew him.

Rex's Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Saint John XXII Catholic Parish, Fort Collins.
