Dick A. Behnke, 78 of Loveland, Colorado, formerly of Taos, New Mexico died on February 17, 2017. He was born December 24, 1938 in Davenport, Iowa to Albert and Helen Behnke. Dick was an only child and moved, with his family, to Colorado where he graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1956.
Dick attended college and was working on a degree when he was inducted into the United States Army on June 21, 1962. He proudly served his country in the XVI US Army Corps as a Broadcast Specialist until April 22, 1964. He was honorably discharged from the US Army Reserves on May 31, 1968. Dick went on to build a successful career as a radio broadcaster, reporter and writer and had his own column, "Fandangos" in the Taos Newspaper in New Mexico. He was known as "Scoop" in Taos. loved to write and cover various subjects, especially sports. His favorite sport was baseball and St. Louis Cardinals were always his team.
In 1999, Dick married the love of his life, his lovely wife, Nancy Pearson. Together they built a life in Loveland, Colorado. He continued to write and was a voracious reader. He enjoyed technology and he loved to play games on his tablet. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Dick is survived by his wife, Nancy Pearson of Loveland, Colorado; niece, Chelsea Pearson of Fort Collins, Colorado; granddaughter, Jade Behnke (Ryan) and one-year old great-grandson, Abel Ray all of Colorado Springs, Colorado and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Denise Behnke.
