Richard Wayne Douglass

Richard Wayne Douglass, 70 of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away September 15, 2016 after a long battle with brain cancer. Richard was born on June 23, 1946 in Greybull, Wyoming to Wilbur Houston and Marjorie Estelle (Peters) Douglass. His brothers are Jim Douglass of Berthoud, Colorado and Clyde Douglass of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Richard's elementary, junior-high and high-school education took place in Greybull, Wyoming and in 1968, he received a degree in Economics from the University of Wyoming. After graduation, he served in the United States Army as SGT E5 with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam during 1969 and 1970. For his service, Richard received the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal; the Army Commendation Medal; the Good Conduct Medal and most importantly, the Bronze Star Medal. After his service in the Army, he moved from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Buffalo, Wyoming and became the City/County Planner.

On May 31, 1975, he married Rowena Esther Wright. Shortly thereafter, he went into his own landscaping business for 10 years and then became the Mayor of Buffalo, Wyoming in 1987 and 1988. In 1989, Richard was a Transportation Planner in Cheyenne, Wyoming until 2011. Richard had a great love for doing remodel projects around the home; building retaining walls, gardening, constructing train tracks for model trains. He especially enjoyed spending time at breweries with his brothers, friends and other family members. Another interest of Richard, was football, mainly at the college level. He was an avid fan of the Wyoming Cowboys.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rowena Douglass of Fort Collins, Colorado; daughter, Amber (Richard) Duveneck of Fort Collins, Colorado; son, Quincy (Sara) Douglass of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter, Madeline Duveneck; grandson, Mason Duveneck; grandson, Brody Douglass and granddaughter, Alexa Douglass; brother, Jim (Marilyn) Douglass; brother, Clyde (Wendy) Douglass; 3 nephews and 6 nieces.
