Richard "Rick" Hernandez

Richard "Rick" Hernandez left us unexpectedly on September 8, 2017 at his home in Fort Collins, CO.

Rick was born on October 19, 1958 in Cheyenne, WY to Ernestine Vigil and Joe Hernandez. He grew up in Cheyenne WY and obtained his GED through Job Core in Ogden Utah. Rick lived in several states including New Mexico and Nevada before making his life in Fort Collins, CO.

After relocating to Fort Collins, CO, he worked as a custodian at CSU where he met the love of his life Lisa. Lisa and Rick were married on September 27, 2001. For most of their marriage, he and Lisa lived in Fort Collins, but they relocated briefly to Austin, TX before returning to Fort Collins.

Rick worked for many years at Poudre school district and CSU as a custodian. He loved his work and met many great people through his work and made lasting friendships. He also worked as a busser at the Breakfast Club and enjoyed meeting and interacting with the customers and co-workers he had there.

In his spare time, he loved to go to and sell items at flea markets. He had a love for classic cars and went to car shows with his wife Lisa as often as they could. Ricks love for cars led him to build and collect car replicas. At the time of his passing, he had amassed a large collection of toy cars. Rick was a huge Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan. He enjoyed watching games on TV as well as going to the games whenever possible. Rick was a fan of the outdoors and loved taking time out to go fishing with his family.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Ernestine and Joe Hernandez as well as his brother Danny. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Hernandez of Fort Collins, CO, his brother Mike Hernandez of Cheyenne, WY, his sister Teresa Hernandez of Grand Junction, CO, his nephew Gabriel Hernandez of Cheyenne, WY. Rick will be greatly missed by his extended family in Colorado and Wyoming including: Karla Bencomo, Billie Kaiser, Elias Bencomo and their families: Susie Jimenez, Debbie Gray (Jen), Becky Gray, Greg Gray (Sam) and their families; Donny Swackhammer, Raven Whitney (Kenny), Ramsey Hill and their families; David Shipley, Paul Gerdon (Heather), Joline Gerdon, Charity Bul and their families; Julie Perkins (Bruce), Kristine Swackhammer (Brad), Kellie Swackhammer (Alistair), David Swackhammer, Jen Wieburg (Nick) and their families; as well as many other friends.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday September 15th at 10:00 am at Community of Christ Church located at 220 E Oak St, Fort Collins, CO 80524 with a reception to follow at the same location. Shirley Remmenga will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rick's life.
