Richard "Dick" Sorency, 80 year-old retired Claims Adjuster with Allstate and Prudential Insurance Companies, died March 6, 2014 at his home in Fort Collins.
Richard Nathaniel Sorency was born August 23, 1933 in Denver to Milburn and Josephine Sorency. He grew up in Denver and served as a Medic in the Army during the Korean War stationed in Europe. He returned to Colorado, settling in Arvada. Dick attended Univ. of Denver graduating with a BA/BS degree in Business. He lived formerly in Peoria, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada prior to moving to Fort Collins in 2002.
On June 17, 1956, Dick married Betty Jean Virden in Denver. He was a hard working and honest man who won many awards nationally for his work with Prudential. He served as a member of Prudential's and Allstate's catastrophe teams. He was a long-time member of the American Legion and Elks as well as the Arvada Jaycees where he helped begin the seatbelt programs. Dick was also part of the team that developed Tot Lots for low-income kids throughout the Metro area.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed time with his family and fishing. He considered fishing "the original, official religion".
He is survived by his wife, Betty; three children, Debra (and Ray) Gillan of Fort Collins, Mark (and Jan) Sorency of Lakewood, CO and Greg (and Priscilla) Sorency of Colorado Springs, CO; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Dick earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 15. In honor of this, his family requests that any contributions please be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Larimer Humane Society in Fort Collins, Colorado.
