Richard "Rick" Keeton, 65, of Fort Collins, passed away on May 30, 2021.
Rick was a native Coloradoan, born and raised in the area. He graduated from Fort Collins High School and attended college here as well. He was always very good with technology and soon after college he began working in the City of Fort Collins Parks Department as a Data Entry Technician.
Rick's use of technology was woven into many parts of his life, including his communication. He lived with Cerebral Palsy that affected his ability to speak, so he spoke using an electronic communication device. He used several models and versions of these devices throughout the years and advocated for other individuals living with disabilities. He tried to speak up for those who couldn't speak for themselves. Rick was something of a local celebrity, speaking to audiences about his life, winning several awards, and helping speech therapists learn to work with people using the technology that was such a help to him. In 2004, Rick met Lisa Wallace as they were both commuting to work on the same bus. On June 24, 2005, the pair were married and began their lives together.
Rick enjoyed listening to the CB Radio, and loved working outside – gardening and doing yard work. He was always willing to lend a hand and was skilled with irrigation systems. Folks who worked with him in the parks department said he did lots of work beyond his Data Tech position. Rick also loved to swim and was best at backstroke. In the 70s, he helped start the SLiCE Adaptive Swim Program at CSU.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Keeton; sister, Becky Adams; nieces Heather Stuart and Marie Adams; nephews, Tim Adams and Mike Adams Jr.; and so many friends in the community and especially in the parks department.
A Celebration of Life will take place from 4pm-7pm on Monday, June 21, 2021 at City Park (Shelter 7) in Fort Collins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Rick D. Keeton Memorial Fund" and mailed to Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Dr. Suite E, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Or take the donation directly to Wells Fargo.
