Robert Lee Asbury, age 91 of Fort Collins, CO, died September 26, 2018 in Fort Collins. Bob was born and raised in Dawes, WV and married Emma Jean Adkins on September 10, 1947 in Camels Creek, WV.
Bob Served in the U. S. Army from 1945 until 1958 after which he enlisted in the Air Force where he served honorably until 1967. He retired as a Staff Sergeant after serving at the end of WWII, the Korean War and in several locations throughout the world. After his retirement, Bob began working as a supervisor for Firestone in Hopewell, Virginia. Eventually, Bob and Emma Jean retired in Sun City, Arizona where he volunteered as a Deputy Sherriff. In 1995, they moved to Fort Collins where Bob began volunteering with the Larimer County Sheriff's Department. Emma Jean died in 2011.
Bob was attended daily Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church until his declining health wouldn't allow him to do so.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Yolanda and son-in-law, Lee Cruz of Windsor, CO; two grandchildren, Dr. Brian Lee Cruz (Melissa) and Kimberly Ann Cruz-Selover (Brian); four great-grandsons, Brendon Cruz, Justin Cruz, Dylan Cruz and Jaxson Selover; and two great-granddaughters, Natalie Angland and Emily Cruz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean; two sons, Michael I. Asbury (at age 6) and Robert Lee Asbury, II (at age 21); and his eleven siblings.
A graveside service, with full military honors will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hopewell, VA.
