Robert Mccollum Curran

Sep 7, 1949 — Jul 24, 2014

Robert "Bob" McCollum Curran, age 64, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on July 24, 2014, after two years fighting glioblastoma brain cancer. He is survived by his mother Franca Curran, brothers John and Hugh Curran, sister Lori Abrams, former spouse Jane Haycraft, girlfriend Kris Bonham, sons Brendan and Devon Curran, their wives Lauren Veronie Curran and Olivia Owens Curran, and grandchildren Arwen and Boyce Curran.

Bob was born September 7th, 1949, in Tucson, Arizona to Hugh McCollum Curran and Franca Martinengo Curran. He was raised in Italy, Florida, Texas, and Alaska. After graduating from East Anchorage High School in 1967, he attended Hamilton Men's College in Clinton, New York, and com-pleted his bachelor's degree at Alaska Methodist University in 1971.

Bob moved to Fairbanks in 1973 to teach at Nordale Elementary. During his years there, he taught 5th grade and the Gifted and Talented program. In 1977, he married fellow Nordale teacher Jane Haycraft. He earned his Masters in Administration from University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 1979. He served as principal at Joy Elementary from 1982 to 1997. Upon his retire-ment, the school's computer lab was named in his honor. Bob moved with his family to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he resided until his death. He was a technology specialist for the Poudre School District for 14 years, earning the nickname "Tekno Bob."

Bob served in the Alaska Air National Guard for ten years. He was a mem-ber of the Fairbanks Education Association and served as President in 1978-79. He was a member of the Fairbanks Principals Association, and the Fairbanks Kiwanis Club. Never lacking energy, Bob partnered with fellow teachers Grant Carlin, Bryant Christensen, and Len Coursey to form the "4Cs Construction Company," building homes in the Fairbanks area for several years.

Bob loved the outdoors. He hiked all over Colorado, Utah, and Alaska. Anyone fortunate enough to find themselves hiking a trail with Bob would be amazed by his seemingly endless stamina. Bob was an avid mountain-eer, climbing Mt. Rainier and Longs Peak, among others. In more recent years, Bob enjoyed tending his garden, cooking for friends and family, and sampling the offerings of Fort Collins' many breweries. Bob was affectionately known as Dadoo by his two sons and despite his battle with cancer, his last two years were brightened by the arrival of his beloved grandchildren.
