Robert Henderson, 81, of Fort Collins Colorado, passed away peacefully and in the sunshine on 24 July 2023.
Robert "Bob" or "Mr. Bob" Henderson was born on 28 February 1942 in Shiprock, New Mexico. Bob proudly served in the United States Navy from 1962-1966. He worked for the National Park Service as a Park Interpreter. During that time Bob met his wife Pat. Bob and Pat had two beautiful daughters, Nizhoni and Cody.
Bob continued his love for the outdoors and went on to retire from the United States Forest Service in 1992. He lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico until his daughters finished school and worked as a beloved substitute teacher, detention teacher, and coached multiple sports for the Santa Fe Public schools. He worked at the Santa Fe Native American and History Museums and helped other Native American Military Veterans on local Pueblos.
During his time in Fort Collins, Bob worked as a Crossing Guard, volunteered at the Colorado Visitor Center, and the local Senior Center.
Bob is survived by his wife Pat Henderson, daughter Nizhoni Henderson, daughter Cody Henderson, and grandsons Dresden and Blaise. His sisters, Dorothy Hill, Viginia Mariano, Irene Nelson, Noel Lee, Rosebelle Nelson, Rosie Larson, Rena Yazzie, and brother, Robert Nelson. He is predeceased by his Mom Sara Hoyle, his biological Mom, Helen B. Nelson, his Father, John Henderson, and brother Henry J. Nelson.
Bob Henderson was a proud Navajo man of the Taneeszahni (Tangled People), Tachiini (Red Running into Water), Hashttishni (Mud), and Ashiihi (Salt) Clans.
The family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army, for which he volunteered.
A Military Honors Service will be held for Bob on Thursday, August 3rd 2:30 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Family and Friends will gather at staging area "B" at 2:00 P.M. at the Cemetery
