After a long battle with ALS, Rod Hartley passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Rod was born and raised in the Rangitikei, New Zealand. He was the son of Jude and Bruce Hartley and grew up with his two sisters Melinda and Bridgette. He studied in Christchurch, New Zealand and traveled extensively throughout Europe before arriving in the United States. He worked as a project manager for commercial flooring in Fort Collins, but his passion was his role as a coach to the CSU Men's Rugby team. Rod was a wonderful husband to Sam, a loving stepfather to Connor, an amazing Father to Maren and Elise.
Rod was an adventurer spending much time on the Ocean with surf life saving, rowing competitively, climbing mountains all over New Zealand, playing Rugby and traveling. At home, he loved gardening, cooking, and being with his family and friends. Rod was a wonderful mentor to the young men he lead at CSU and their loyalty and admiration for him through this time is a testament to his role there.
There will be a memorial service held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on Friday, May 18th at 2pm. Rod would have appreciated any donations to go to the ALS Association.
