Ronald Flemming

Oct 21, 1922 — Mar 23, 2008

Ronald Edward Flemming was born on October 21, 1922 in Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada to Gibson and Helen Flemming, passed on March 23, 2008 in Fort Collins, Colorado. He had boyish tales of his dog sled team, snaring furs, skating on the river, and playing hockey. He became known as a tough young hockey player nicknamed Juno. Ronald served in the Canadian Navy and assisted in the Evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940. His ship was sunk with much loss of life, and he was wounded for several months. Knowing the harshness of war, he never cared to talk about it much. Ronald married Rita Morrow in 1951, and they raised their family of 5 children together primarily residing in New Jersey. Ronald prided himself on being a family man and good provider. In the early years he worked as a machinist on the midnight shift for that extra 10 cents per hour. Gradually he became a manufacturing methods engineer. Most of his life he worked 10 hour days, and 6 day weeks. As a father, he was always there when needed, and the kids have fond memories of camping, scouting, rifle shooting, go-karts, hockey, etc. He enjoyed simple pleasures, like hot dogs and beans, Saturday night lamb chop sandwiches and the occasional lobster. As a rule, he only allowed himself drink on Saturday nights. He prided himself on his family and supporting their accomplishments. Ronald and Rita retired and moved to Colorado in 1988, where they enjoyed being near family. For years they enjoyed motor home traveling and camping, and winter escapes to Texas and Arizona. At the age of 85, Ronald had often joked that old age is not for sissies. He passed in peace on Easter morning, March 23, 2008 in the presence of family. Ronald is survived by his wife Rita, his 5 children: Gregory, Ronald, Hugh-John, Brenda, and Helen; 11 grandkids and 1 great grandson. A private family memorial service was held at his home.
