Ronald Kent

Ronald James ("Bill") Kent, II, 71, of Loveland, Colorado died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in Longmont as the result of an automobile accident. He was born September 21, 1938, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to the late Ronald James and Kathleen Wilhelmina (Moore) Kent. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1962. He earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1966 and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from USC in 1971. Formerly married to Carol Sue Marshall, mother of Lynne and Margie, and Meredith Sommers, mother of Tara, Brandon, and Trevor. Ron worked for Southern California Edison for 10 years, during which time he received numerous and rapid promotions. In 1976, he and his family left the Los Angeles area for the cleaner, crisp air of Colorado. He worked as Assistant to the President of Colorado Ute Electric Association in Montrose, Colorado. In 1979, he embarked on a major career change and purchased the Rio Blanco County Abstract Company in Meeker, Colorado. He managed and worked tirelessly at the abstract company for some 20 years. After leaving Meeker, he was employed by various companies in the greater Fort Collins area. Ron was a faithful member of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Fort Collins, Colorado. A highlight of his life was attending the men's conference every year. He served communion to shut-ins and he was always eager to provide acts of service wherever he could. Ron was a 32nd degree Mason. Over the years he was also a member of the Elk's Club, the Lion's Club, and Gideons International. Ron enjoyed skiing, reading books, watching football, and learning about computers. Ron is survived by daughter and son-in law Lynne and Jerry Berry and grandchildren Josiah, Jonathan, Kayla, Michael, and Nicole of Moffat, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law Margie and Aron Wong and grandson Alexander of Mountain View, California; and sister and brother-in-law Rolleen and Jim McIlwrath of Stockton, California and nephews Mike and Kevin and niece Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Kathleen Kent. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Peter's Anglican Church, 308 East County Road 30, Fort Collins, CO. The Rev. Jim Paul will officiate the service. Donations to the Ron Kent Memorial Fund will be accepted by St. Peter's Anglican Church for the education of Ron's grandchildren.
