Salome Antonio Vigil

Salome Antonio Vigil, age 80, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on April 5, 2026, under hospice care in Fort Collins.

Born June 25, 1945, in Dawson, New Mexico, to Santiago and Sarah (Serna) Vigil, he spent his early years in Cimarron, New Mexico working at Chase Ranch as well as the Boy Scout Ranch before relocating to Fort Collins, Colorado. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1967 until 1970, including 11 months and 28 days with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Division in Vietnam. His distinguished service earned him numerous medals, such as the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device, Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.

Salome married Wendy (Laux) Vigil. Together, they have five children: Janet, Charmaine, Jennifer, Jeromy, and Erik. He enjoyed fishing and spending time in the mountains, and took great pleasure in visiting his grandchildren, often bringing treats for them to find.

Salome was blessed to have several brothers and sisters: Jim, June, Sally, Manuel, Dan, Mary Jo, Juan, Susan, Gloria and Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Sarah. Sisters June, Sally, and Lucy and his brother Jim. He is lovingly remembered as joining his granddaughter "silly bird" Felisha and grandson Benjamin in heaven.

Salome is survived by his daughters, Janet Vigil, Charmaine (Kyle) Bendzsa, Jennifer Vigil. Sons Jeromy (Lisa) Vigil and Erik (Erin) Vigil. Grandchildren: Kennedy, Jade, Shamus, Maddison, Noa, Adrian, Christine, Mikaela, Shiloh, and Tinsley. Great-grandchildren Hazel and Everett.

We all loved our father, and he will be deeply missed.

On June 8, 2026 at 11:00AM our father will have military honors at the National Cemetery in Cheyenne.

On June 25, 2026, we will have a celebration of life in Cimarron New Mexico.
