Sharol Marie Enockson

d. Jun 13, 2023

Sharol was preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Maxine Enockson, and younger brother, Stephen Enockson.

Sharol was born in Rolfe, Iowa to Palmer and Maxine Enockson. She was born with Spina bifida and spent much of her childhood in-and-out of hospitals. This congenital birth defect left her with a lifelong handicap that profoundly shaped her life and would eventually inspire her to embark on a career dedicated to the service of others with disabilities.

She moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa with her family, attended Ft. Dodge Grade School, and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1956. After high school she attended a 2-year vocational college and then worked as a bookkeeper.

Sharol moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado in 1975 to be with her parents, her brother, Paul, and her sister, Marilyn. She quickly found her calling and joined The Association For The Blind and Physically Handicapped, serving in various leadership roles and advocating for the rights of those with disabilities at state and local levels. This experience led her to play a foundational role in a newly formed organization in Larimer County— called Disabled Resource Services (DRS) that was created to serve the needs of the disabled.

Sharol was an original board of directors member, employee, and organizer/coordinator for the annual DRS WineFest/Silent Auction fundraiser. Her tireless efforts on behalf of the disabled also included handicap accessibility advocacy and education in Ft. Collins, and a board of director position and consulting role for Care-A-Van. She was a true partner among both city and community leaders — always championing for the rights of the disabled. In 2000, her years of selfless work earned her the Larimer County Martin Luther King Humanitarian award.

In addition to her service¬ on behalf of the disabled, Sharol also found time to work as a cake decorator at a local cake shop in Ft. Collins called Cake World. She was what you'd call a true "crafter" who enjoyed cross stitch, making hand-stamped greeting cards, and unique Christmas ornaments that she sold at local craft fairs. Sharol was also an avid collector of tea pots and tea cups and enjoyed organizing and hosting tea parties at the Avery Carriage House on Mountain Avenue in Ft. Collins.

Sharol was a devout Catholic, prayed her Rosary often, and attended St. Joseph's parish for 48 years.

Sharol is survived by her brother, Paul Enockson from Lakewood, Colorado and Marilyn Eloe from Post Falls, Idaho. Sharol is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews.

Sharol was a beloved daughter, aunt, sister, and friend. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
