Sharon Schooley, age 68, of Fort Collins, passed away peacefully August 6, 2009 at Pathways Hospice following a courageous battle with a lifelong illness. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Foothills Garden of Memory, Hwy. 287, North of Longmont on the West side. Sharon Bender was born October 7, 1940 at the family farm in Sheboygan County Wisconsin, to Arno and LaVerne Bender. At the age of twelve, Sharon's family moved to Colorado where she eventually graduated from Longmont High School. Sharon worked as a dental assistant for a while and also enjoyed babysitting in her later years. She was a former member of Berthoud Methodist Church. After successfully raising her family in Loveland, she spent her last two years at the Residence at Oakridge in Fort Collins. Sharon was a gentle soul who enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends. She was an extraordinary cook and had a flair for making a house a home. She loved playing cards and family games and making beautiful flower arrangements. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Sharon is survived by two sons, Russell Schooley (& fiance Tracy Minsky) of Allen, TX, and Randy (& Jen) Schooley of Berthoud; her sister, Sue Bender (& Marcy) of Loveland; brother Chuck (& Bev) Bender of Brighton; her sister-in-law, JoBeth Bender of Littleton; 2 granddaughters; 4 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, DuWayne Bender. Her family requests that any memorial donations please be made to Pathways Hospice or the American Lung Association in care of Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Dr., Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
