Sharon Waag

On Monday, October 14, 2024, Sharon Waag passed away at the age of 86. She was the fourth child of Avis and Maurice Coomes of Atlantic, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father Maurice Coomes, Avis (Odem) Coomes, brother Dean Coomes, sister Marilyn Caudle, and husband Harold Waag.

After graduating high school in 1955, she attended Maryville College for two years to obtain her teaching certificate then moved to Greeley, Colorado to attend Colorado State College (now University of Northern Colorado) to obtain her Master's Degree in art from 1958 until 1962.

Sharon married Harold Eugene Waag on December 24, 1961 in the little town of Wiota, Iowa in blizzard-like weather. She often lamented about feeling selfish later on for making people come out into that storm on Christmas Eve for the wedding! Harold and Sharon settled on a farm south of Timnath to begin their married life. For 20 years they farmed together raising cattle, crops such as sugar beets, corn, alfalfa, barley for the production of Coors beer, and pinto beans. In the year of 1963, their daughter Lynnette Kay was born, followed shortly by the birth of their son, Steven Eugene, in 1965. She took so much pride in being a farmer's wife, a mother and housewife over the years, and she excelled at them all!!

Whenever they could get away from the farm for a weekend, they would take the family on camping trips, snowmobiling excursions, and jeeping up the Poudre Canyon or in Red Feather Lakes area. Her many hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening and later on, grandkids. Sharon made numerous trips to Yellowstone with Harold to snowmobile in the wintertime.

After Harold retired from farming in 1980 from Kersey, CO, they moved the family to Timnath, Colorado and began working at Woodward Governor Company for around 19 years. Grandchildren began to arrive in 2000 and she kept very busy with Leif (25) Kristof (22) and Alyssa (18). She was an incredible grandmother and entertained the kids with craft projects and overnight adventures. She loved going for walks with her son, Steve, and coming to Wellington where her daughter, Lynnette, lived to help with many projects there. She was a very active member at the church where she worked on the Banners Committee sewing beautiful banners to decorate the church and the Prayer Shawl project. The ladies successfully made shawls for about every member of the church and for all the families and friends they knew as well.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynnette Henning (Eric) and children Leif, Kristof and Alyssa of Wellington, CO, her son Steven Waag living in Timnath, CO, and her sister Donnis Phillips of Decatur, IN. To sum it up, Steven and Lynnette and family always referred to mom as our "Angel on Earth". She will be so deeply missed.

We are comforted knowing that Mom and Dad are together, as they had been for almost 63 years of marriage. Mom's passing was very much a shock, but Steven and Lynnette both knew that Dad was a handful and the Lord needed some help so he called her home, too.
