Shirley Kilmer Ward, age 88, Estes Park, CO, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park. She was born in Kirwin, KS on January 05, 1924, to the late William and Olive (Richards) Kilmer. She was united in marriage on Feb 13, 1942 to Arlin B. Ward and was blessed with four children. The Wards spent most of their lives in Manhattan, Kansas, and almost every summer they created cherished memories at the family cabin in Estes Park. In Manhattan, Shirley was active in the Methodist Church, hosting visitors from other countries, political efforts, Christian youth groups, and Hospice. She supported Arlin's career as a professor in the Department of Grain Science and Industry of Kansas State University.
Mrs. Ward is survived in Estes Park by daughter, Barbara Ward Pratt and step daughter Heather Pratt. Granddaughters: Karen (Blake)Mosier Nicholson, and their children Decker, Benjamin, and Hannah Grace; Kristen(Chris)Mosier Hill and their children Ethan and Isaac; Karla (Justin)Mosier DuBois; and the extended L. C. Ward family.
She is further survived out of town by daughters: Linda(Steve)Ward Mosier, and daughter Kayleen (Garrett) Geist,Hays,KS; Kay(Chris)Ward Taylor, and their daughter, Jena of Ft. Collins, Colorado and son Matthew (Ashlee) and their children Zach and Zoe, of Berthoud, Colorado; and son Kenneth (Robin) Kilmer Ward, and their children Brian(Faith)Ward, and daughter Katie Ward, of Fruita, CO.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband.
Shirley's loving life will be honored at a private family service in Estes Park.
A memorial is established at Estes Park Medical Center Foundation - 555 Prospect Ave. Estes Park, Colorado, 80517. Written notes about Shirley will be gratefully compiled in a scrapbook for her desendents and can be mailed to – Ward family, P.O. Box 3676, Estes Park, Colorado, 80517.
