Stella A. Snyder

d. Nov 17, 2022

Stella Snyder, 88, of Fort Collins, died November 17, 2022, at Brookdale Senior Living in Fort Collins from complications attributed to COVID-19. Stella Ann Trembley was born August 29, 1934, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Leo and Martha (Lockman) Trembley. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1949.

After graduation from Fort Collins High School in 1952, Stella was married to Earl J. Snyder in 1954; divorced in 1982. They shared a love of family, friends and square dancing. From 1977 until 1999 she worked in the quality department at Woodward, where she enjoyed her work and made lasting friendships.

Stella is survived by her five children who "have been my life." They are Jay Snyder and Sallie Varner, of Fort Collins; Nola McMillen of Fort Collins; Rex Snyder of Livermore and Fort Collins and his partner, Brenda Flynn; Ward Snyder and his wife, Paula, of Windsor; and Amy Gregory and her husband, David, of Windsor. Grandchildren are Colin Keney, Shauna Adams and Ryan McMillen; great-grandchildren are Jaydon, Jianna and Charles Keney, and Ashe Adams.

Other survivors are her sister Leola Parish of Centennial, Colorado, her sister and brother-in-law Martha Sharon and Jerome Hageman of Lakewood, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother David Trembley of Kelso, Washington.

As well as being an avid reader, Stella enjoyed writing poems and prose, including journals of her travels to England, the Netherlands, China and more. She wrote her own obituary (which has been slightly modified) in 2011 and included the following quote from chapter five of The Dead Secret (1856) by author Wilkie Collins:

"The great consolation for the loss of the dead who are gone is to be found in the great necessity of thinking of the living who remain."

Stella chose cremation, with Grandview Cemetery the final resting place. The interment service will be at 11:00 a.m. on December 10, 2022, at Grandview, followed by a luncheon reception at the Agave Room at 149 W. Mountain Avenue in Old Town Fort Collins. All who knew Stella are invited to join us.
