Stephen Frank Teachout "Steve" was born to Lowell Bryson Teachout and Francine Anne Teachout December 1, 1953, at Fitzsimons Army Hospital, in Aurora, Colorado. Stephen was their first born, followed by Teresa, Janet, Clay, and Kathleen.
Steve attended Ranum High School in Westminster, Colorado and graduated and in 1971. He held several jobs before going to work with his Dad "Bryce" at Farmers Insurance Agency in 1982. They worked together for 22 years. Steve met Marcia Wilson Peterson in 1987, in a restaurant called "Friends". They were married in a small church, Chapel in the Hills, August 6, 1988.
Steve's passion was fishing. He was also a great cook, preparing dinners for he and his wife Marcia. He made the best fried Trout. In later years he bought a Kayak and was finally able to get out to the middle of the lake, instead of always shore fishing. He said it felt so peaceful, as it was truly like being a part of nature.
He loved nature, wildlife, and Alaska. Steve and Marcia were able to go to Alaska three times. On one trip Steve caught a Halibut, which was cleaned and shipped home to Colorado. This was truly an expensive dinner.
Another love for Steve was his dogs, particularly Australian Shepherds. He adopted Scooter. Steve and Scooter were buddies during his cancer journey.
She gave him a great deal of comfort.
One place Steve truly enjoyed was the gym at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. They have an excellent program for people going through cancer treatment. Studies show amazing benefits of exercise toward cancer recovery.
Steve was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a terminal blood cancer,
April 19, 2004. He was referred to specialists in Denver. He had 2 Stem Cell Transplants and many chemo therapy treatments over the span of 11 years. On June 16th, he was taken to the emergency room and diagnosed with pneumonia. He spent 7 days in ICU, but was unable to recover. Steve was surrounded by his entire family, when he passed away June 23, 2015, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Steve was preceded in death by his nephew Justin Schempf, who passed away March 4, 1995, his sister Teresa Schempf, who passed away March 4, 1997, and his mother Fran Teachout, who passed away April 18, 2009.
