Stewart William Mayott

STEWART WILLIAM MAYOTT entered the world on Valentine's Day in 1960, the second born of Curtis and Janet (Garvin). He was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent most of his growing-up years in Glens Falls, New York. Copious amounts of snow and nearby mountains turned him into an avid skier. Despite his love for the slopes, he attended college at Kansas State, earning his degree in math education. He also found a wife in Kansas, marrying Cheri Rolph in 1982. The two of them moved to Syracuse, New York, and took turns putting each other through grad school. Stewart got his master's in computer science from Rochester Institute of Technology. He also joined the Bristol Mountain Ski Patrol.

Proximity to the slopes, he decided, was important—so what better state to make a life in than Colorado? He and Cheri have lived in Fort Collins now for 35 years. This is where they raised their two kids, Curtis Richard and Karyn Janette. Stewart was a second dad to others, including two foreign exchange students and a foster daughter.

Stewart worked for Hewlett Packard and HPE for 35 years. He had teams in far-flung parts of the world, primarily Ireland, India, and China. This required some travel, and Stewart was a big fan of travel, both for work and for fun. He never tired of learning new things and seeing new places. He was truly a life-long learner with many interests.

His primary interests included hunting, being outdoors, building, and repairs. He did most of the work on the cabin he and Cheri own in North Park, starting at the very beginning with clearing the land. The United Way recognized him for the many hours he spent helping single moms with car repairs through Project Self-Sufficiency. He was also the guy friends and neighbors came to when they needed a handy person; he had the know-how, the tools, and—most of all—he was very generous with his time. This generosity included teaching, too…everything from auto repair to coaching baseball to juggling! Many a skier have Stewart to thank for their early lessons.

Stewart lived life as a Christian man of integrity; there is nothing better that can be said of a man. He is survived by his wife Cheri, living in Fort Collins, and by Curtis and Karyn, both in the Denver area. He is also survived by his mother Janet Gillespie of Burlington, Vermont, brothers Jeff with wife Debbie in Niskayuna, NY, Brian with fiancee Krissy in Porter Corners, NY, and sister Sheri with husband Tim VanWoert in Fairfield, Vermont.
