Thomas Brett Throgmorton

Tom Throgmorton passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 68.

Thomas Brett Throgmorton was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on February 12, 1957. He was raised in Cheyenne, graduated with the East High School class of 1975 and went on to study in the College of Education at the University of Wyoming with an emphasis on Special Education.

Tom's passion and interest in horticulture was piqued when he began working for the Cheyenne Community Solar Greenhouse in 1980. This community greenhouse utilized a workforce of senior volunteers, youth-at-risk, and disabled adults. Tom was directly involved in coordinating volunteers and providing support for the project. This is where his love for gardening and nurturing plants expanded into a lifelong career path.

In February 1986, Tom began working for Fort Collins Nursery and in 1988 became the Sales Manager for Fort Collins Wholesale Nursery. He served in this capacity until 2005 when he started his own landscape and gardening business Throgmorton Plant Management. He operated this business until his retirement in 2023.

Tom's professional career led him to be a Certified Nurseryman with the Colorado Nurserymen's Association, a Certified Greenhouse Grower with the Colorado Nursery & Greenhouse Association, and a member of the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado.

Tom had many side projects and interests. One that he was particularly known for was his gardening broadcasts. He provided weekly gardening tips for over two decades on KUNC Public Radio. KUNC Digital Story: https://tinyurl.com/fje3u4rp

Tom was also involved in an independent nursery project where he and his business partner grew spruce and character pine trees. Hundreds of their trees are planted throughout the state of Colorado. This collaboration also evolved into cultivating food crops and providing vegetables for many friends and family through the years.

Preceding Thomas in death were his parents Walter Lee and Patricia Lea (Connolly) Throgmorton.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Debra, their children Brett Throgmorton, and Kaitlyn (Throgmorton) Wolfe and her husband Matt Wolfe. Surviving siblings are Gary Throgmorton and his wife Patricia, David Throgmorton and his wife Christine Sturm, and Patricia Throgmorton.

A Celebration of Life is planned for later this spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Larimer County Food Bank or a charity of your choice in honor of Tom.
