Von Andrews

Von Wayne Andrews passed away March 27, 2011 due to a vehicle accident in Arizona. Cremation has taken place. Born March 4, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Leo and Katherine Andrews, Von joined the U. S. Military as a teenager. Upon his discharge in 1957, he went to work for Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Chicago. He met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Sandhoefner. They were blessed with two children, Susan and Richard. The Andrews family moved from Chicago to Fort Collins in 1971 and he went to work for Mountain Bell (QWEST) and retired in 1990. In 1991, Von went to work for C. B. & Potts restaurant where he worked for 20 years. Von was involved in many family and community activities: Civil War roundtable, Lincoln Forum, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Larimer County Dive Rescue, Larimer County Fire Fighters, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Sunday School Teacher, Volunteers Clearing House/Education & Life Training Center, Henry's Lake Foundation, Poudre River Cleanup, Welcome Center and Poudre Valley Hospital. He was known around town for always wearing shorts which showed his butterfly tattoos and enjoying a cup of coffee with his newspaper. The tattoos reflected his deeply held Christian beliefs. Von and Carolyn enjoyed their RV travels throughout the United States. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Susan (and Ralph) Pankey; three grandchildren, Clint Andrews, Coribeth Andrews and Victoria Pankey; and several cousins in Chicago. In addition to his parents, Von was preceded in death by his brother, Richard and a son Richard who died in 2003. There will be a gathering beginning at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 17th in the Fellowship Hall of Harmony Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Boardwalk. Please come casually, have a cup of coffee and share stories and laughter and remember your time spent with Von. An oak tree will be planted in Troutman Park in his memory.
