William "Bill" Avery, age 88 of Fort Collins, Colorado, died February 25, 2008. Funeral service 9:00 AM Friday, February 29th in the Chapel at Good Samaritan Village, 508 West Trilby Rd., Fort Collins. Interment, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Crown Hill Cemetery in Coldwater, Kansas. A reception will follow. William Hough Avery, Jr. was born April 12, 1919 in Coldwater, KS to William and Dorothy Avery. He served in the First Armored Division as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII in North Africa and Italy. He married Esther Leeper on December 26, 1944 at the First Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky. They settled in Hutchinson, KS, and were longtime members of the Forest Park Presbyterian Church. Bill worked for 31 years in various positions for the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory in Hutchinson and retired in 1981. During their retirement, he and Esther traveled around the United States in an RV for five years prior to settling in Del Rio, Texas. In 1999, they moved into the Good Samaritan Community in Fort Collins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Esther; his son G. Keith Avery; and his older daughter Carolyn Bloomberg. He is survived by his younger daughter, Rebecca Avery of Springfield, IL; son-in-law, John Bloomberg of Fort Collins; daughter-in-law, Linda Avery of Escondido, CA; six grandchildren, Jeanne Richardson, Jay Archer, Brent Avery, Tyrone Avery, Tiffany Avery and Lori Avery; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Archer and Severin Archer. Bill's family requests that any memorial donations please be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
