William Johnson Heustis

William Johnson Heustis, a beloved family man, a dedicated servant of his community, and an enduring spirit of strength and love, passed away peacefully at home with his wife of 64 years on December 6, 2023. Born to Fred J. and Carol D. Heustis in Fort Collins, Colorado, William, or Bill as he was affectionately known, lived a life full of service, love, and devotion.

Bill attended Laporte grade school and high school, and during those years he met the love of his life, Margaret Lou Heustis. They met when Bill was bringing a horse down the mountain to deliver the horse to Margaret's father. They saw each other and love was in the air. Their love story began and continued to grow, leading to a beautiful marriage and the birth of their three children, Troy, Tracy, and Todd Heustis. Bill was a proud father and an even prouder grandfather to his 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

After high school, Bill furthered his education in South Carolina at Columbia Bible College, a decision that would shape his life profoundly. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and decisions. He was an active member of Front Range Baptist Church, where he demonstrated his love for others and shared his faith with all those who crossed his path.

Bill's career was as diverse as it was fulfilling. He worked at Mel Simpson Sheet Metal and later served as a reserve police officer for the City of Fort Collins. Bill retired after 25 years with the Sheet Metal Workers Local #9, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. He also spent 15 years at the Larimer County Sheriff's Department, 15 years at LSI Logistics. Earlier in his life, he trained as an EMT and police firearms instructor, which was a testament to his commitment to his community. His final occupational position was at NOCO RV as a mechanic working with his son, Todd and Grandson in law.

Outside of his professional life, Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping, coaching softball and football and other activities that allowed him to appreciate the beauty of nature. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, participated in triathlons and obstacle course racing displaying his enduring spirit and determination. He enjoyed these most when he could do them with family.

Bill was known for his helpful and thoughtful nature. He was always there to lend a hand or offer a kind word, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. His siblings, Deanne Hewett and Doug Heustis, along with his extended family and friends, will remember him as a pillar of strength and a beacon of love and kindness.

In honor of Bill's life and legacy, a memorial service will be held at Front Range Baptist Church. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Front Range Baptist Church, an organization that was close to Bill's heart.

Bill's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and service. He was a family man, a man of God, and a man who never shied away from a challenge. His life lessons, his enduring spirit, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
