William "Bill" Keith Thompson, 68, danced his way into the heavens on Saturday morning, December 21, 2019, at his home in Fort Collins, Colorado after an 11-month battle with glioblastoma multiforme, a terminal form of brain cancer. He was covered in hugs and kisses and surrounded by love.
Born on October 13, 1951, in Fort Worth, Texas to Herbert and Jacquelyn Thompson. At the age of 6 he moved to San Diego, California. He was involved in 4-H, football and track. His favorite childhood stories to tell involve his loving siblings (Cheri Pope, Bob Thompson, Art Thompson) and his donkey, Irving. Bill worked as a Grocery Store Manager for over 30 years, where he met many wonderful people who he was proud to call friends.
He first saw Deborah at the river but thought she was way too young. She was. A few years later, they met again and the rest was history. They married on June 19, 1976 and raised four daughters together. In 2004, the entire family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. He worked for various companies over the next 10 years in Fort Collins including Safeway, Poudre School District and Tolmar Inc. His days in his short retirement included traveling, golf, day to day routines and conversations with the grandchildren, spending time with the love of his life, perfecting his barbequing skills, elk hunting, attending concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, camping, growing giant pumpkins and developing even deeper and more meaningful relationships.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He will be remembered for his love of life, honesty, integrity, loyalty, sense of humor and beautiful smile he brought to all. A story-teller who loved to talk, but was actually an even better listener. An open-minded, opinionated man. "Present me with enough facts and ideas and I just might change my mind." And he did, a few times.
William is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah Thompson, daughters Rachel Muscarella, Rebecca Michel, Katherine Kinkead, Lesa West, along with his adoring son-in-laws, Craig Muscarella, Jacob Michel, Stephen Kinkead, Matthew West, and doting grandchildren, Jeff, Jacob, Leila, Logan, Anthony, Ava, Damon. His siblings, nieces, nephews and amazing friends, both old and new, filled his heart and there was always room for one more. His legacy lives on within us all.
Funeral services will be kept private and for immediate family only. He will be laid to rest at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colorado. We will celebrate our most special man this June at Bill and Deborah's home in Fort Collins. We will dance, listen to classic country, drink Keystone Lights, eat barbeque, play driveway basketball, play horseshoes, shoot pool, tell stories and jokes, embrace each other, love each other and hold each other close in his honor. In lieu of flowers, please donate to gbmresearch.org.
