Yolande Du Bois Irvin gained her wings on November 15, 2021, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was called home to join her Mom, Dad, and Grandfather, W.E.B. DU BOIS. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and life long friend.
She was born to Arnette Williams and Nina Yolande DuBois on October 11, 1932.
Mom lived her life:
So many words could be used to describe Yolande Du Bois – Irvin. She was extremely intelligent, full of life and laughter. She could sit on the phone for hours at time and there was never enough time in the day. Yolande held a PhD in psychology and was a clinical psychologist/ associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Xavier University of Louisiana. Much like her grandfather, W.E.B. Du Bois, she was an advocate for education. She believed that through education, time, and travel that we could heal the world of racism as well as seek a true understanding of one another. All through her life she made it a point to keep Du Bois' legacy and life's work alive. She took away countless similarities from her grandfather: compassion, leadership, creativity, self-expression, and a love for nice cars. Much like her candy red Ford Mustang, she was a risk taker and shined bright throughout her life. Yolande Du Bois will always remain a legacy in our minds and more so in our hearts. She is preceded by her mother Nina Yolande Du Bois, grandfather W.E.B. Du Bois, Grandmother Nina Gomer Du Bois, her son Mark Adam Peck, her husband, Howard Irvin and best friend Charlotte Jacque. She leaves behind her (3) children: Nina Irvin, Arthur McFarlane II, Jeffrey Alan Peck; grandchildren: Ry'ann Irvin, Janae Peck, Chasonique Peck, Jeffrey Alan Peck Jr., Eliana Peck; great grandchildren: Skylar Young, Lloyd Richardson II, Summer Young and Kai Delatorre; close friends Eloise Doxie Dixon, Gloria Vando Hickok, and Marynell Morgan Brown.
Special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospital in Fort Collins Colorado: Robin Purnell and the entire nursing staff loved Du Bois and she loved them back.
