Many of us have experienced grief of some magnitude. Whether a relationship ended, or a death occurred, we all have our own ways we process and heal, perhaps some of them not so healthy for us. Yoga as a coping mechanism is therapeutic and offers a healthy release for your emotions during your grief journey. Yoga helps you to connect with your body and enhance strength and confidence within yourself. If you’re new to yoga, start with a beginner method and do what you’re comfortable with. You will be amazed at what your body can do, and how peaceful this practice can be.

Yoga provides an outlet- Join your local yoga studio for a few classes each week- in fact, many cities offer a yoga/grief workshop specifically for those who have experienced a loss. If a class setting isn’t your thing, use the internet to your advantage, as there are many yoga resources available at your fingertips. Rather than turning to self-destructive ways of coping, yoga is a healthy outlet for your pain and is beneficial for your health overall.

Yoga relieves stress- Grief is a stressful time for a person, as you are processing multiple emotions at once. In fact, yoga has been shown to relieve symptoms associated with anxiety and depression, as it is often used as a form of physical expression. The peaceful practice of yoga will help you to focus on strengthening your mind and body, allowing you to feel more connected with yourself and relieve stress. Start your day with a yoga sequence and leave your worries and stresses on the yoga mat.

Yoga is versatile- There are many different forms of yoga to try, including: Meditative, Bikram, Restorative and many more. Some forms of yoga are designed to relax the mind and body, while others are focused on strengthening the body. However, they are all meant to deepen your connection with yourself. You can adapt your yoga preference to your lifestyle, and you don’t need to be flexible to start. Do some research and discover what yoga practice is best for your current lifestyle needs.
